ENGLISH COMMUNICATION PRESENTATION

TUESDAY SUNNY DAY 6 NOV 2007

Last night i cannot slept as well... I felt very nervous and exciting, because it was the first time that I wore formal for presentation. I just bought the formal clothes in the morning. My mother accompany me bought the clothes. My mother said,'Pei Yee, you are really good looking when wear formal.' I felt very happy and more confident for today English presentation.

My friend~Cloey was the first person who started English presentation. Then ,I was the second person to present. The topic that I presented today was 'choking'. First, i brief my classmates about the important skill of first aid because it can be matter life or death. I told them the signs of a choking victim. For example:unable to speak, grab on his throat, difficult breathing.................... Beside that, I also taught them the ways to avoid the accident because prevention is no accident.

It got many types of choking, for examples: conscious victim, unconscious victim, babies under one year old, children under five years old and you are choking when you are alone. I welcome my classmate-Andy Wong be my casualty. First, I showed the step for helped a conscious victim. Then we showed the way to save a unconscious victim and baby under one year old.

I think this topic that i presented was very useful in real life. It is because you may be able to successfully stop the choking before help arrives using techniques discussed here, but it is best for the choking person to be evaluated by the emergency medical team when they arrives.

I wanted to say thank you to Andy Wong. He help me a lot and he was the best casualty in the world. Ha ha... Hey Andy, you act like really choking. Next time when u need a casualty, you just need a call, i sure will help you.

I hope i can get higher mark for these English presentation. Lastly,I will post the steps for basic treatment until professional medical help arrives.

REMEMBER,practice make perfect!'

Conscious Victim

1. Ask the person: ’Are you choking?’

2. Stand behind the person and wrap your arms around the person’s waist.

  1. Make a fist with one hand. Place the thumb side of your fist just above the person’s navel, well below the breastbone.
  2. Make quick, upward and inward thrusts with your fists.
  3. Continue do it until the blockage has come out.

Unconscious Victim

  1. Lay him or her flat on the floor.
  2. To clear the airway, kneel next to the person and put the heel of your hand against the middle of the abdomen, just below the ribs.
  3. Place your other hand on top and press inward and upward five times with both hands.
  4. If the airway clears and the person is still unresponsive, begin CPR.

Babies under 1 year old

1. Give up to five back blows and check between each blow. Clear the blockage from baby’s mouth with your little finger

2. If the blockage hasn’t cleared, lay baby on her back, place two fingers in the centre of her chest and give her up to five chest thrusts.

3. If baby is still choking, continue give five back blows and five chest thrusts until emergency help arrives.

You are choking and you are alone

  1. Abdominal thrust with your own hands. This is done by positioning your hands in the same fashion as if you were performing on another person and delivering an inward and upward thrust.
  2. Another option is to bend your belly over a firm object, such as the back of a chair, and thrust yourself into the object.
